A Republic P-47D Thunderbolt Made Ready
 Building airstrips for the U.S. armed forces campaign across the Pacific was the 
primary task of the 857th EAB. In this work, a pilot's mechanic is inspecting a
Republic P-47D Thunderbolt. The red flame design on the cowling, the year and
place would indicate that the aircraft was from the 35th Fighter Group, 40th
Fighter Squadron. The 40th FS, Fightin' Red Devils, flew the P-47 "JUG" in many
critical campaigns over the Pacific. The 40th FS website link is below.
